What is the MLA (Mississippi Lakes Association)?
The MLA is a not-for-profit service organization started in 1944 and incorporated in Ontario in March 2002.
We provide services to property owners, tenants and businesses
(our clients) located on the shores of the Mississippi Lakes.
How is the MLA organised?
The MLA is governed by a group of seven elected directors.
Elections take place at the Annual General Meeting.
The positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer are determined by the group of seven elected directors.
What is the Mission of the MLA?
Our mission is to act as a voice for our clients in matters concerning the Lakes; to assure that our clients interests are duly considered; to provide services to our clients and to be the "Guardian" of the lake
How is the MLA funded?
Annual membership dues are paid by our clients
- Donations by organisations and individuals that support the aims
and objectives of the MLA
In addition, we receive revenues from advertisers who purchase ads in our annual Mississippi Belle Magazine
How does the MLA provide a voice for its clients?
- By making presentations to local governments on issues concerning the Lakes
- By participating on various committees that have been formed by
other groups that could impact the Lakes
- By representing our clients interests at various forums that could affect the Lakes
What services does the MLA provide?
-Maintain navigation hazard buoys throughout the Lakes
- Hold an annual general meeting to discuss issues and provide info on relevant topics
- Maintain weed cutting facilities
- Publish an annual newsletter
- Lake stewardship in conjunction with the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority
- Deal with issues which affect the Lake ( e.g., removal of submerged cars)
